A pair of white metal cast figure of Hercules from the tampion big guns of HMS Hercules both mounted in bakelite bases .
These are rare and gorgeous, and rarer to have a pair ,they'd look marvellous in your home . Look at the detail and patina in them they're just stunning .The Maritime Museum in London holds an example .
Condition; the bakelite bases show some stains and age ,they have been polished with coconut oil .The figures show beautiful patina and age ; solidly made .
This would have originally been mounted onto a large wooden tampion.
HMS Hercules was a Colossus-class battleship built by Palmers, launched in 1910, and commissioned in 1911 at Portsmouth.
In August 1914 she joined the Grand Fleet.
At the Battle of Jutland, she fought in the 6th Division along with Marlborough, Revenge and Agincourt .
1916, HMS Hercules was transferred to become flagship of the 4th Battle Squadron.
Sold to a German ship breaker, HMS Hercules left Rosyth Dockyard under tow, to be scrapped at Kiel.
Dimensions mounted :
10.2 in 27 cm approx height.
Each wights 1.8 kg weight approx.
