A pair of beautifully hand carved and hand painted red lacquer and gilded Foo Dogs Figures.
Probably originally they were parts of a Chinese wedding bed or maybe part of a temple .
With the right fittings they could be hanged on a wall to decorate your beautiful room or simply displayed on a table to each side of your bed , or by your fireside , anyways they will look fabulous in your home and will be a good talking point.
Size: 7 cm H x 19 cm W x 7.5 cm in D
Origin: China
Circa: Late 1800's to early 1900's.
Material: Wood with red lacquer and gilt paint .
Condition: Original condition, hand paint and hand carved, general normal age wear .One of the dogs has a small piece of the moulding missing ;see last pic,please.
Foo Dogs are Chinese protection symbols of Feng Shui that typically “guard” the entrance-ways to buildings and homes. Ironically, they don’t actually depict dogs, but rather lions.

I absolutely love this set of antique wooden carved Foo Dogs. I have been looking for it for years now and am very proud to be the owner of it now. As part of our Peranakan material culture, these sat above the main door holding up the family plaque which beams the name of the village that the family hails from in China.
