Artist; Ro Keezer (Amsterdam, 1905 – 2003)
Condition; the original pochoir is in good condition .The frame shows some age .
"Rosa Sara (Ro) Keezer ( Amsterdam , 29 August 1905 – 20 March 2003 ) was a Dutch typographer and illustrator , painter .The print is one from a folio of prints from the late 20's to early 1930's titled LA TOILETTE.FEMININE ET LES BIBELOTS DE L'EPOQUE ROMANTIQUE printed in the French Pochier (hand painted stencil) method, a very labour intensive process which involved the cutting of stencils for hand-painted Gouache colorization. The results and process similar to artists original prints and a cross between painting and printing as each print was actually hand painted requiring a great amount of skill. The only real printing is the black linework. The process commercially disappeared sometime in the 1930s due to the cost and labor involved.
The subject matter is a delightful mix of the age of Romanticism (early Victorian Revival) in an Art Deco style, with colour and pattern as a major design element."
