Antique Decorative Victorian Relief Salt Glaze Stoneware Pitcher Jug With Biblical Scenes Decoration By T & R Boote C 1848
Beautiful jug that will look amazing in any quality interior mixed with other antique ceramics or on it's own. I love the fact that is been repaired and it shows its age. Made in C 1948-50's. A museum piece.
Stoneware jug, buff body, relief-moulded with a scene from the Old Testament of 'Samuel and Eli' on both sides, set within an ogee-shaped arch surmounted by a foliate finial, the foot in the form of six arches. The scene represents the infant Samuel revealing to Eli his vision of God prophesying judgement on the iniquity of Eli's house (1 Samuel 3: 16-18). Beneath the spout on the front of the jug is a single figure with turban and breastplate carrying a smoking incense burner.

Pottery manufacturers. Founded in 1842 when Thomas and Richard Boote took over the Kiln Croft Works at Burslem, Staffordshire. In 1850 they purchased the Waterloo Pottery which became their main manufactory. From the later 1860s, production concentrated on tiles which became the principal product from the 1880s. The Waterloo Pottery closed in 1906 but the firm continued to make tiles.
